The "shi-ki-ri" are made of a flexible wood fabric called "kyokugishi®" which have the capability to be curved and bent in three dimensions.
An extension of the concept of shoji and fusuma sliding doors, the panels are produced from ultra-thinly sliced wood veneers. These "shi-ki-ri" partition space just as conventional Japanese shoji and fusuma do, but with the thinness and lightness of a wood membrance only 0.2mm thick.
The "shi-ki-ri" therefore exist as sensory catalysts: to divide territories psychologically more than physically.
Depending on the direction of illumination, the surface reveals a beautiful wood grain, and the laser-cut patterns of the "shi-ki-ri" resemble shadow pictures.
Consider a contemporary interpretation of the Japanese culture's "setting apart" behavior handed down from the ancients. That is the "shi-ki-ri"
